Love, Sex and Disability: My name is Harlan Hahn. I’m a professor of political science at the University of Southern California, which hardly qualifies me to speak about the topic that we’re going to be discussing this afternoon. But fortunately we do have someone with us who is qualified by her training to talk about this issue. I’ll try to explain a bit about my investigations of the historical evolution of disability and sexuality, as well as my own experiences as a person who has been disabled since the age of six. Then Sharon will provide a professional perspective on this subject. I have been involved in the study of disability as a research subject and in the disability rights movement as an activist for a number of years.

Most Helpful Girl Anonymous Honestly, I think this is something that’s a bit sensitive to accurately address. You should not feel afraid to approach a girl you find interest in, however, there’s a lot of shallow people out there. Personally, if I liked the feel of you at first glance, then I would give it a try and go on a date with you. I would judge how I felt towards you after really meeting you, not by just looking at the wheelchair. Still, this is only if I were feeling nice.
No body wants to deal with the controversial big white elephant in the room. But, what I’m saying is, I would never approach you first only because I don’t want to do something that might offend you in any way. Also, even if you were to approach me first, I would still feel uncomfortable and would want to avoid any awkward situations. Its just me but I wouldn’t know how to act around someone who is disabled who seems to take a liking for me.
Because, in my selfish mind, I want a man who is not disabled and can provide for my needs. You might be the strongest man and the richest, but before even considering those things, my mind might subconsciously cancel you out as a candidate just because you are disabled and appearing to be lacking.
I would be scared about feeling sorry for you and all that shallow crap.

Contact Don’t Label Me “Undateable” People told me I would never find love, and no romantic partner would accept everything that comes along with my disability. I refused to believe them, and it worked — just ask my boyfriend. Many believe the biggest barriers stem from society’s often-skewed views of our capabilities and what it means to be disabled. Many are shocked to learn that people with disabilities have active social lives and romantic relationships, including sexual ones — gasp!
There are limited resources for people with disabilities when it comes to dating and relationships, including sexual and reproductive health. Sometimes the relationship started when both of the people were able bodied and the other person later became disabled. One more step
Alamy After nearly four years of being single, I decided that I wanted to meet someone romantically. Instead of waiting for love to find me, as people often suggest, I decided to do what so many do these days: I started looking at some of the available profiles and I eventually found someone that sparked my interest, so I sent a message introducing myself and asking more about them. Receiving a reply from someone who is romantically interested in you can be a strong and positive feeling, especially since most of us, especially men, are familiar with embarrassing ourselves when asking someone out on a date.

I Beg Your Pardon? Dealing with Rude Nondisableds Wrongity wrong wrong! Except for the ones who aren’t, but that’s not because they’re disabled. Disabled people have bodies, and many people with bodies enjoy being sexual with them, because it feels good, it’s fun, it allows them to get closer to other humans, or they just want to give it a whirl and see what all the fuss is about.
Like other people with bodies, you have autonomy, which includes the right to decide if, when, and how you have sex and engage in other activities.
